Acupuncture Meridians And The Locations Of Points

The points (穴) used in acupuncture can be found along the meridians, channels or other parts of the body.

The Twelve Regular Meridians

The 12 regular meridans are:

  1. Lung Meridian
  2. Large Intestine Meridian
  3. Stomach Meridian
  4. Spleen Meridian
  5. Heart Meridian
  6. Small Intestine Meridian
  7. Urinary Bladder Meridian
  8. Kidney Meridian
  9. Pericardium Meridian
  10. San Jiao Meridian
  11. Gallbladder Meridian
  12. Liver Meridian

Extraordinary Meridians

There are eight extraordinary meridians, but only two of these have unique acupuncture points:

  1. Ren Mai
  2. Du Mai

Acupuncture Meridians And The Dimension Of Time

The qi energy flows throughout the body. Depending on the time of day, qi energy is more prevalent at different meridians as shown in the table below:

Lung 3am – 5am
Large Intestine 5am – 7am
Stomach 7am – 9am
Spleen 9am – 11am
Heart 11am – 1pm
Small Intestine 1pm – 3pm
Bladder 3pm – 5pm
Kidney 5pm – 7pm
Pericardium 7pm -9pm
San Jiao 9pm – 11pm
Gallbladder 11pm – 1am
Liver 1am – 3am
