ਭਾਵ ਵਿਅਕਤ ਕਰਨਾ - Expressing emotions

Emotions such as happiness, sadness and anger in humans are responses to events happening around them. These emotions can broadly be classified as positive e.g. happiness, negative e.g. sadness or neutral. Your expression of emotions is also an event which produces emotions in someone you are interacting with. Your expression of happiness may make someone happy and vice versa. Therefore using right expressions for your emotions is important so as to avoid, to the extent possible, producing negative emotions in others.

Expressing happiness

Happiness is a fuzzy concept and can mean different things to different people. Broadly speaking happiness is a mental state of positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. The contentment and joy are reflected in the expressions of happiness. On a non verbal plane a smile is excellent expression of happiness. Here is a sample of verbal expression of happiness.

ਰਾਜੇਸ਼(ਬੇਹੱਦ ਖੁਸ਼) : ਮੇਰੀ ਬੱਚੀ, ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਰੂੂਪ, ਮੈਂ ਬੇਹੱਦ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹਾਂ!
Rajesh(looking elated) : My baby, my little angel, I am so happy!
ਰਵੀਨਾ(ਮੁਸਕਾਨ ਨਾਲ) : ਰਾਜੇਸ਼, ਪਿਤਾ ਬਣਨ ਦੀ ਵਧਾਈ ਹੋਵੇ!
Raveena(with a smile) : Congratulations Rajesh on your becoming a father.
ਰਾਜੇਸ਼(ਚਿਹਰੇ ਤੇ ਮੁਸਕਾਨ) : ਰਵੀਨਾ, ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਮਾਂ ਬਣਨ ਦੀ ਵਧਾਈ ਹੋਵੇ!
Rajesh(with a smile) : Raveena, congratulations to you too on becoming a mother.

Expressing surprise

Surprise is the result of unexpected event. It can manifest in the raising of eyebrows and dropping of jaws.

ਰਵੀਨਾ : ਰਾਜੇਸ਼ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਵੀ ਗਏ, ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਉਡਾਣ ਤਾਂ ਕੱਲ੍ਹ ਸੀ!
Raveena : Rajesh you have come, I thought your flight was tomorrow!
ਰਾਜੇਸ਼ : ਹਾਂ ਰਵੀਨਾ, ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਫੋਨ ਕਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਮੈਂ ਰੁਕ ਨਾ ਸਕਿਆ।
Rajesh : Yes Raveena, but I could not stay back after I received your phone call.
ਰਵੀਨਾ : ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਚੰਗਾ ਕੀਤਾ।
Raveena : This is very nice on your part.

Expressing sadness

Sadness is an emotion characterised by sorrow, despair, disappointment, loss or helplessness.

ਰਵੀਨਾ : ਮਾਤਾ ਜੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਉਦਾਸ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋ।
Raveena : Mom, you look very sad.
ਮੀਨਾ : ਹਾਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਮੈਂ ਇਕੱਲੀ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ।
Meena : Yes, I have been feeling lonely since your father passed away.

Expressing anger

You become angry when you feel wronged by others. Sme people are by nature irritable and become angry without any rational basis. Expression of anger helps in remedying the wrong and addressing the grievance. However unnecessary expression of anger may create strained relations. It is therefore absolutely necessary that expression of anger be controlled and appropriate.

ਕਪਤਾਨ(ਕਚੀਚੀ ਭਰ ਕੇ) : ਲਉ, ਉਹ ਫਿਰ ਵਿਕਟ ਵਗਾਹ ਕਿ ਸੁੱਟ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ।
Captain(with grimace) : He has again threw away his wicket.

Expressing fear

Fear is caused by danger to life, health, wealth or harm to the loved ones. The instant response to fear is fight as in the case of killing a snake or flight as in the case of recoiling or moving away from the snake when encountered suddenly.

ਰਾਜੇਸ਼ : ਆਹ! ਭੱਜ ਕੇ ਆ ਜਾ, ਕੁੱਤਾ ਕੱਟੇਗਾ।
Rajesh : Come! run away fast, the dog will bite you.

Expressing disgust

The emotion of disgust is caused by a gory scene, a miserable condition, immoral actions etc. Sample response to a gory scene.

ਮੀਨਾ : ਉਫ! ਕਿੰਨਾ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ ਹੈ!
Meena : Oh! What a gory scene!
